_MG_2450About Melissa Aronczyk…

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University. I write and teach about issues related to media, identity, and public life.

I have two books out: Branding the Nation: The Global Business of National Identity, available from Amazon or via Oxford University Press; and Blowing Up the Brand: Critical Perspectives on Promotional Culture, an edited book with Devon Powers, available from Amazon. You can hear me talk about the ideas in my book, Branding the Nation, on the New Books Network podcast or on the National Public Radio show Marketplace.

I’m also a Faculty Fellow with the Center for Cultural Sociology at Yale University.

I have a Ph.D. from the Department of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University.

Right now I’m working on three projects:

1. A book manuscript on the impact of marketing, advertising and other commercial strategies on everyday life.

2. A project that looks at political communication around the energy industry.

3. An NSF-funded project on PR and climate change.
